Small business community

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Small business entrepreneurs will learn what cloud computing means.
  2. Small business entrepreneurs will learn how cloud computing can help them reduce costs.
  3. Small business entrepreneurs will learn how cloud computing supports mobility.
  4. Small business entrepreneurs will learn that cloud computing is easy to use.
  5. Small business entrepreneurs will learn how cloud computing can contribute to greater efficiency and productivity.
  6. Small business entrepreneurs will receive an introduction to using Wave Accounting online for their accounting needs.

Gap:

Participants are already aware of their need for accurate record keeping, maintaining accounts, and finacial management. I would like them to know that there is free software available to serve these needs. I am identifying the gap as lack of knowledge and the workshop will be designed to close this gap by educating the participants about this free accounting software.

Introduction: 15 minutes
Ice-breaker, warm-up activity-
Please introduce yourselves

Pre-training: 30 minutes
Short multimedia presentation introducing the concept of cloud computing:
Participants will access online flashcards.
Participants will play a short game.
The winner will receive a surprise giveaway.

Module 1: Information Session 10 minutes
  1. What is cloud computing?
  2. What are the benefits of using this 21st century technology?
  3. What are the challenges of using this 21st century technology?
  4. How does this technology compare to what we are using now?
  5. Examples of cloud technology to meet our small business needs.

RECESS: 30 minutes

Discussion Time 30 minutes
Field questions and mediate discussion and exchange regarding using the tools presented in the information session

LUNCH: 1 hour
  • Lunch will be provided

Module 2: Practice Session - 1 hour
Authentic Assessment Activity:
  • Participants will watch three short tutorials.
  • Participants will form small teams of 3 in order to complete a short project to demonstrate understanding of acquired learning.
  • The activity will be assessed according to guidelines outlined in a rubric.

RECESS- 30 minutes

Conclude Workshop- 30 minutes

  • Participants will be asked to complete an evaluation.
  • Light refreshments will be provided.
